DeSales Students Rebuild, Donate Computers to Hellertown Area Library

A little effort by computer science students at DeSales is going a long way to help the Hellertown Area Library.

Twenty students in Instructor Joseph Walsh’s CS-230: Computer Architecture and Hardware Support class rebuilt four computers and donated them to the library.

Dr. Lara Goudsouzian, assistant professor of biology, is a member of the library’s board of trustees and helped to make the donation a reality.

“She first approached me and said, ‘Do you want some free computers?’ And I said, ‘Of course,’” says Robin Rotherham, director of the library.

The library serves about 6,500 people, and the computers will be used for everything from resume writing and driver’s license renewal to browsing the Internet and playing games.

“We’re just very thankful that the [DeSales] students are learning and that we could benefit. It benefits the whole community,” says Rotherham.

Earlier this year, the class also built and donated a dozen computers to Casa Guadalupe, a non-profit that provides a range of services to residents in the Lehigh Valley.
